At Fitness First we pride ourselves in providing a safe, clean and hygienic space for all members and visitors to enjoy. Throughout our clubs, members will often find notifications displayed to outline the clubs’ rules and regulations in association with hygiene and cleanliness. These are to ensure the standards of the facility remain at the highest level for our members.
Recently, complaints were received from some members of Fitness First Chatswood in relation to cleanliness in some areas of the gym, leading club management to post signage with reminders of their safety and cleanliness requirements.
In recognising English is a second language for a large majority of our members at Chatswood, Fitness First consulted with the Australian Multilingual Services to create signage in English, Cantonese and Mandarin – the three largest spoken languages within the Chatswood catchment area.
Fitness First understands some members were offended by the placement and volume of these signs, and sincerely apologises to anyone who was offended in any way. Fitness First welcomes members and visitors from all backgrounds and communities and it was certainly not the intention to single out the Chinese community.
The Fitness First Australia head office is working closely with the club to resolve the issue immediately, and ensure no further offence is caused.
